Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
A Nurturing Start to Lifelong Learning
Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) programme provides a warm, engaging, and stimulating environment where children develop confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning. Rooted in the UK EYFS framework, our approach supports each child’s academic, social, emotional, and physical development during these vital early years.
Learning Through Play and Exploration
In EYFS, learning is hands-on, meaningful, and play-based. Children are encouraged to explore, ask questions, and make discoveries through structured activities and child-initiated learning. This approach supports independence, creativity, and positive attitudes towards school.
Core Areas of Learning
Our EYFS curriculum focuses on the following key areas:
Communication and Language
Children develop speaking and listening skills through stories, songs, role play, group discussions, and daily interaction. Early phonics (Jolly Phonics) supports sound recognition, blending, and early reading.
Literacy
Pupils are introduced to reading and writing through storytelling, rhymes, phonics, and mark-making. Fine motor skills and pencil control are developed to support early writing, building strong foundations for future literacy success.
Mathematics
Children develop number sense through counting, number recognition, patterns, shapes, comparison, and simple problem-solving. Maths is taught through practical activities, games, and real-life contexts.
Understanding the World
Through themed topics, children explore their surroundings, nature, cultures, and everyday experiences— helping them make sense of the world around them.
Physical Development
Gross and fine motor skills are developed through movement, physical play, handwriting preparation, and coordination activities.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
EYFS strongly supports emotional wellbeing, friendships, independence, and self-confidence. Children learn to cooperate, share, express feelings, and develop positive relationships.
